Field Fellowships & Research Opportunities

The Alliance for Adaptive Ecology offers residential fellowships, fieldwork grants, and collaborative apprenticeships designed to train researchers in non-invasive ecological monitoring, animal cognition, and community-led conservation.

1. Graduate Research Fellowships (6-12 Months)

Targeted at master’s and doctoral candidates in ecology, ethology, agroecology, and conservation biology. Fellows are embedded directly at our Western Ghats Living Lab or Agrarian Basin Station, receiving full accommodation, field vehicle access, sensor gear budgets, and mentorship from our Principal Investigators.

  • Track A: Herpetofauna and Invertebrate Trophic Cascade Modeling
  • Track B: Bioacoustic Sensor Networks and Soundscape Ecology
  • Track C: Spatial Connectivity and Camera-Trap Circadian Analysis

2. Community Science Field Technician Residencies

Designed specifically for local rural naturalists, agroecology extension workers, and youth conservationists from agrarian communities adjoining our field stations. Residencies provide paid, hands-on training in GPS spatial mapping, camera trap servicing, vegetation plot botanical recording, and bilingual biodiversity registry curation.

3. Visiting Scientist Sabbaticals

Open to university faculty, independent researchers, and conservation professionals seeking a 3- to 6-month residency to analyze long-term monitoring datasets, write empirical monographs, or conduct collaborative pilot trials.

Application Guidelines & Timeline

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis across our two primary field seasons:

  • Monsoon Field Season (June – November): Peak season for amphibian breeding ecology, agroecosystem pest regulation, and ephemeral wetland surveys.
  • Post-Monsoon & Dry Season (December – May): Peak season for camera-trap mammal arrays, reptile thermal telemetry, and forest fallow chronosequences.
